Equipment

  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plant milk (soy, oat, coconut, almond, etc.)
  • ¼ cup filtered water
  • 1 medium ripe banana
  • 3 tablespoons taro powder
  • 2 tablespoons cane sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6-8 large ice cubes

For serving

Instructions

  • Add the plant milk and water to a blender, followed by the banana, taro powder, cane sugar, vanilla, and ice. Blend on high until smooth and creamy.
  • If necessary, stop to scrape down the sides a few times. Add more ice if it’s too thin or water if it isn’t blending.
  • Serve immediately with vegan whipped cream, shredded coconut, or toasted almond slices on top. Happy drinking!

Notes

Start blending slowly: To ensure a smooth texture, start your blender on low and gradually increase it to high speed. This technique prevents too many chunky bits.
Customize the sweetener: Adjust the amount of cane sugar based on your preference and the ripeness of your bananas. Taste as you go — it's easier to add more than to remove.
Serve it immediately: Enjoy your taro smoothie right away. Freshly blended smoothies have the best texture and flavor.
Starting with liquids helps the blender run smoothly and prevents powder or smaller ingredients from sticking to the bottom.
If the smoothie is too thick, add a bit more water or plant milk to reach your desired consistency. If it's too thin, add a few more ice cubes.
