We're Mitch and Justine, the founders of Broke Bank Vegan. We share traditional Mexican recipes with a plant-based twist. If you like meals that are cheap, quick to make, and delicious, you've come to the right place.
About Mitch & Justine
Both of us have been vegan for over 6 years now (crazy how the time flies!). We've always had a passion for health and nutrition, which led us down the path of becoming registered nurses.
Although we loved working as RNs, we really weren't able to make the lasting impact we'd always hoped for.
What do we mean?
The majority of people we cared for had illnesses brought on from lack of education surrounding diet and exercise.
Did you know heart disease is still the number one cause of death worldwide?
Health is often taken for granted until it's too late. Unfortunately, we saw the after-effects as nurses. We felt helpless at times, and it really weighed on us.
We wanted to reach people on a global scale to prove how powerful food can be for your health.
Enter Broke Bank Vegan.
With our experience traveling to Mexico and years of experimenting with this cuisine, we knew moving here was the right choice.
We've made it our mission to highlight the beauty of Mexican cooking while keeping it 100% vegan.
Whether you're looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts, or sauces, we got you!
We strive to keep our recipes as close to their roots as possible in order to showcase the real, authentic flavors of Mexico.
For this reason, we do a lot of research and experimentation before sharing our recipes. It's also why we decided to move our life here.
We want to make one thing clear — it doesn't matter if you're vegan or not, our recipes are meant for everyone to enjoy!
We have a lot of plans for Broke Bank Vegan. Since we strongly value transparency, we want to share the big-picture goals we're working towards:
- Donating part of our profits to charities we personally believe in and making this available for you to see.
- Creating our own charity to have better control over where the money is allocated.
- Showing the path we've taken to those who are interested in pursuing food blogging as a full-time career.
We will be making our traffic, income, and expense reports public so more people can understand what it takes to make blogging a full-time job.
