    🍓 What is strawberry juice?

    Fresh strawberry juice is an energizing drink that can be enjoyed any time of the year. It's made up of 100% pure juice, meaning there are no sweeteners, additives, or anything else like that.

    You can either strain strawberry juice or leave it unstrained for the nutritional benefits of fiber. It's completely up to you!

    🧃 Juice vs nectar

    Both fruit juice and nectar are widely available at most grocery stores around the world. However, have you ever wondered if the two are actually different? We're here to tell you they are, and this is how to tell them apart:

    Purity — In general, fruit juice is made from 100% extracted fruit pulp. Nectar may be diluted with water, additional sweeteners, or preservatives.

    Consistency — Fruit juice is typically thinner than nectar. Some fruits, such as peaches, pears, or apricots, need to be made into nectar as they'd be too thick to sell as 100% pure fruit juice.

    Sweeteners — Usually, fruit juice contains no added sugars or other sweeteners. On the other hand, nectar does contain sweeteners.

    Note: Nowadays, you have to be mindful as more fruit juices contain added sweeteners or are made using concentrates. However, in their pure form, 100% fruit juice is a healthier option compared to nectar.

    📜 History

    While juicing may seem like a relatively recent trend, it has actually been traced back as early as 150 B.C. In Israel, there are written records from an ancient tribe describing the process of mashing pomegranates and figs to consume.

    As far as modern-day juicing goes, Dr. Norman Walker is credited with the invention of the first juicing machine in the 1930s.

    A lot has changed since then, but juicing remains a popular way to consume nutrients from fruit and vegetables.

    🛒 Ingredients & substitutions

    Strawberries — Fresh, ripe, and in-season strawberries provide the best balance of sweet, juicy flavors. If possible, we recommend using organic strawberries and washing them well before use. You can also use frozen strawberries for this recipe.

    Step 1 — Wash the strawberries in cold water. You can remove the stems from the strawberries, but it’s also completely fine to leave them on.

    Step 2 — Add the strawberries to a blender, food processor, or juicer and mix on high until you achieve a smooth consistency.

    Add water as needed

    Step 3 — If you prefer no pulp or seeds in your juice, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth.

    Fridge — Freshly-made juice is best consumed immediately for optimal nutritional benefits, but you can transfer it to a glass jar or container and keep it in the fridge for up to 2-3 days.

    Freezer — Strawberry juice can be frozen in ice cube trays for up to 3 months. Thaw them overnight, or blend them for a strawberry slushie texture.

    Yes, it is possible to make juice without a juicer. A blender or food processor both make great alternatives, especially if you don't juice often. Depending on your blender, you may need to strain the pulp or seeds through a fine-mesh strainer or nut milk bag.

    Can this juice be made with frozen strawberries?

    Yes, this juice can absolutely be made with frozen strawberries. Just use an equal amount as fresh and blend them right from frozen. If you don't have a high-speed blender, you may need to add a little water to get the blades moving.
